unlimited

In the modern world, people constantly face barriers: geographical boundaries, internal fears, social attitudes. On the one hand, they allow you to systematize the world and prevent you from plunging into chaos, on the other hand, they become obstacles and limit opportunities.

The artists of the exhibition “Unlimited” build a reverent conversation about difficult things. The representation of female images, the problem of physicality, the theme of overcoming social inequality and gaining independence are rethought through various mediums, innovative visual techniques and an individual perspective. The exhibition, filled with metaphors and unexpected secrets, blurs the lines between reality and fantasy, affect and calm, a beautiful outer shell and disturbing feelings.

Intentional Solitude
Artist studies solitude and showcases it from a different unusual angle. This is a solitude that Marina intentionally accepts and enjoys all forms of it.

It is important to mention that the topic of solitude is universal and in most cases is viewed as something negative and as a desire to remain alone. Humans are social beings and it is important to stay connected to one another. However, if this connection has no breaks there is a risk to get lost in the thoughts and opinions of another person and lose your own self. Communication is of course important and useful but it is also important to intentionally stay alone to connect with your own self and your thoughts.

Each artwork depicts different states of intentional solitude. It will surprise you with its joyful and warm story destroying the conventional understanding of solitude. The most repetitive element of each artwork is confetti. This medium is used intentionally to showcase the joy of staying alone. Being alone doesn't always mean something bad. For Marina, intentional solitude is first of all a celebration.
Altukhova Marina showcased more than 10 paintings, one installation, a book called "Solitude" as well as one of paintings was accompanied by acoustic music.

Immersion
This was probably one of the most darkest periods in my life that helped me discover myself and my inner voice. Immersion - is a tribute to tapping into emotions and finding light within you. It is about realization that whenever darkness falls upon you, you can always find strength within yourself to fight. As a woman I found myself lacking of that strength and needed something to remind me I have it inside me.

This series of four works were created using acrylics on canvas. Since acrylic is a fast drying medium it was another interesting challenge to paint this portraits in a smooth technique. I used a special medium that enables acrylics to dry slower. Aside from this help I had to paint very fast and in many layers to create this particular effect.
